Carp fishing in France at Old Oaks
Following on from his success with the big fish venue Laroussi, Mehdi Daho opened a new venue just across the road in March 2006 – he called it called Old Oaks. We’ve worked with Mehdi for 5 years now and he is without doubt one of the most dedicated owners we have ever met. His knowledge of carp fishing, his attention to detail in every aspect of customer care and his sheer love of what he does means that any fishery he’s involved with has to be a success and Old Oaks is definitely a success.
Laroussi – carp fishing holidays in France
One of the best known and most prolific big carp waters in France Laroussi is a mature, natural looking lake of around 15 acres with many interesting features including plateaus, overhanging trees, lily pads, shallows and gullies up to 5m deep. The average depth is around 3m, with a gravel, sand and clay bottom and there are no crayfish or poisson-chats present. There are 7 swims (some doubles) for a maximum of 8 anglers – giving each one over one acre of lake to themselves! It is possible to book the lake exclusively. All the swims are easily accessible and comfortable. The lake is fenced and tree lined making it totally private – it has been left as natural as possible giving a real feel of seclusion.
Hideaway – fishing holidays in France
As the name suggests Hideaway is a secluded lake in the Normandy countryside, just 1.5 hours from the ferry port of Caen. The 2 acre lake is fairly narrow and oblong in shape – fishing is from one bank only. Depths vary from less than a metre near the feeder stream, averaging 1m in the centre and down to 2.5m at the dam wall end. The lake bed is largely firm with pockets of patchy silt, notably at the dam. The banks are flat and grassy, ideal for setting up a bivvy and a pod. There are no specific pegs, but the bank is fishable along its entire length. Access is by foot, with parking at the entrance to the lake. The whole site is secure and fenced in and is a great venue tucked away in the Normandy countryside.
Windmill Lakes – French carp fishing holiday
If you like to combine your carp fishing with trying for monster catfish then take a good look at the Windmill complex. There are two lakes, both around 4 acres, holding specimen carp… but the Top Lake also offers some serious catfishing with large cats to around 80lb. The lakes are only a few metres apart so you can bivvy up together between the two and still socialise whilst fishing different lakes. Windmill is therefore the perfect combination for a group of anglers with mixed abilities. The Main carp lake has the better stamp of carp whilst the Top lake is a real runs water that also gives you the chance to catch big cats… and you certainly know about it when you have one of these on the line, believe us!
Grosley – Carp fishing holidays in France
Grosley sur Risle is a well established and mature venue set in the Normandy countryside near Evreux. As its name suggests it lies in the Risle valley and is flanked by rolling hills and a railway line on its far bank – this does see some rail traffic, but nothing too intrusive. Before being turned into a carp fishery it was a leisure park so the facilities are very good. It’s now under new ownership having been recently purchased by Eric Touzé who is determined to create a first class carp fishery. Grosley has 2 separate lakes, the Large Lake (around 25 acres) and the Small Lake (around 9 acres). Both lakes have good stocks of carp; the record in the Large Lake is 48lb and the Small Lake 40lb.

The lake has excellent facilities and fish stocks with the average fish being in the 20’s…. but 30’s are not at all uncommon. As a bonus the lake also has large sturgeon to over 60lb and if you’ve never caught one of these tail-walking maniacs you’re in for a treat!
